In late 2006 Bachmann released a box car in 1:20.3 scale. It has Arch bar trucks with 26" wheels.
The car is an
accurate model of an
American Car and Foundry
Company car built for the,
Florence & Cripple
Creek railroad in 1899. Cars of this type subsequently
went to Southern Pacific,
Pacific Coast,
Nevada-California-Oregon,
Nevada Country Narrow
Gauge, South Pacific Coast,
Magma Arizona,
Montana Southern, and
Naval Supply Depot at Pearl
Harbor.
Several members of the Large Scale community contributed to the making of this car. The model used by Bachmann for this car was modeled using plans originally drawn by Curt Johnson. The Brake gear is based plans from a NCNG supplied by the group restoring this car.
Jeff Sexton from American Model Builders provided laser cut car sides and Bob Hartford from Hartford Products contributed parts and knowledge.
The under frame and brake rigging are from a NCNG car using Arch Bar trucks.
The most important aspect of a model designed for outdoor garden railroad use are its wheels and trucks. How well they work on uneven track, how well the wheels roll and how well they track are key. As they did with their other F scale cars, Bachmann has raised the bar in this respect. They run like a dream.
Bachmann has currently produces 4 paint schemes for the car. Decals for other paint schemes can be found at http://www.urbaneagle.com/fcc/fcc-index.html
